“Missing Everything About You”, by Coco Lee ft. Edmund Leung. Coco is the only Chinese person to have performed at the Oscars(with her Academy-Award-nominated “A Love Before Time” from the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon soundtrack), and the only Asian artist to have several top-three singles in the MTV Asia Hitlist. Edmund(Edmond) Leung is a Hong Kong singer I’m not particularly interested in.

My Sassy Girl, a Korean film, was a smash hit in Asia in 2001. Here is the film’s beautiful theme song, sung by Shin Seung Hun
“I Believe”, Shin Seung Hun
English lyrics of “I Believe”:
I believe… When you are not with me there are no stars in the sky.
I believe… The way back to you will feel a little far.
I’ll carry all those memories deep inside me.
I’ll feel pain, it’ll make tears fall.
When I won’t cry you will leave me
With no change and no tears.
Someday again the tears will come around
You know it
I’ll believe that you are waiting.
I do it for you.
I believe… It’ll hurt me to see, you can’t cry.
I believe… My tears will fall, you should turn back to me again.
Again I’ll glimpse you come into my sight
And it’ll make my tears fall.
When I won’t cry you will leave me
With no change and no tears.
Someday again the tears will come around
You know it
I’ll believe that you are waiting.
I do it for you.
Before I knew you, the world was dazzling.
From that sky I got left with tears.
I will care for that person.
You are the only reason…
To me the wait gives me enough happiness.
Love is the only reason…
As days pass by,
If you forget the way, I’ll be waiting
I do it for you.
I do it for you

Rainie Yang is the Taiwanese version of Mandy Moore(at least, the Mandy Moore of a Walk-to-Remember age) – the adorable, multi-talented young star who presents herself as(and may even be for a little while yet) the pure, dreamy, almost-too-cute for words type. Like Mandy, she can both sing and act, and after a career which initially struggled, broke out in a huge romance hit in which she played a spunky yet pure young adult who falls for and reforms a bad boy – in her case the Taiwanese miniseries Devil Beside You with Mike He(who is quite as good-looking as Landon Carter, if anyone was wondering). She’s also like Mandy in that her voice is on par with her acting skills and her music career got lauched off songs she wrote based on Devil Beside You(remember Mandy’s “Cry” and “Only Hope” from a Walk to Remember?) Rainie’s versions were “Ai Mei”(Ambiguous) and “Li Xiang Qing Ren”(Ideal Lover). In both cases, audiences took one look at this fresh, new, beautiful, and refreshingly innocent face, and the sweet voice singing love songs that accompanied it, and fell madly in love. Mandy’s career has faltered in recent years(almost entirely her own fault) but Rainie has yet to – and may never, if she’s careful – reach that point. Both even made a music video of their most popular song from their romance, interpersed with scenes from it, in which they 1)Prove that they can actually sing and 2)Prove that they are actually sexy/beautiful and not just cutesy – oh yes! and of course do yet more publicity for the romance. Or that at least is the impression I receive of what these videos are intended to convey. Not that I don’t love/like them.
Rainie’s “Ai Mei”, from Devil Beside You
Mandy’s “Cry”, from A Walk to Remember
